Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe

Victoria Falls is where safari trips go to become adventure trips. The Zambezi below the falls serves up commercial rafting's most famous grade-five run; the bridge hosts a 111-meter bungee; the gorge has swings and zip lines; and microlights and helicopters circle the smoke that thunders all day. Every one of those activities appears on mainstream exclusion lists — often several of them on the same list.

The activity gauntlet

Work through the itinerary honestly. White-water rafting above grade three is excluded or conditioned by many wordings — the Zambezi's Batoka Gorge run is grade five. Bungee jumping is a named exclusion on plenty of policies. Microlight flights fall under aerial-activity clauses even more firmly than balloons (helicopter sightseeing, as a licensed commercial flight, fares better). This is the destination where an adventure sports rider stops being belt-and-braces and becomes the actual product you need.

Logistics are better than the region's reputation

The falls sit on a proper town with an international airport, and Livingstone across the bridge adds a second. Local clinics handle the moderate cases; serious trauma — and grade-five rafting can produce it — is stabilized locally and flown to Johannesburg, roughly two hours by air ambulance. Evacuation cover of $250,000 is a reasonable target given the trauma-flight scenario, even though day-to-day remoteness is low.
