Hazardous Activity Exclusion

A standard clause voiding cover for activities the insurer considers dangerous. The list varies wildly — walking safaris, balloon flights, horse riding, and diving each appear on some insurers' lists and not others.

Every travel policy carries a hazardous pursuits clause; the question is only what's on the list. The frustrating part for safari travelers is inconsistency: one insurer excludes walking safaris but covers ballooning, the next does the opposite.

How to read the clause

  • Find the named exclusions list and check every activity on your itinerary against it, by name.

  • Absence from a "covered activities" list can be as bad as presence on an excluded list — silence is not coverage.

  • Many exclusions can be bought back with an adventure sports rider.

Our activity guides track which partners explicitly cover each safari activity.
