The Okavango is the purest test of whether a travel policy is safari-ready. Camps sit on islands in a seasonal flood plain with no roads in — every arrival, departure, and emergency runs through light aircraft. Getting in — and getting out

Delta itineraries chain unscheduled charter flights out of Maun or Kasane, hopping between bush airstrips. A policy restricted to scheduled carriers excludes every one of those legs. In an emergency the same aviation runs in reverse: a light aircraft to Maun, then a medevac flight to Johannesburg for anything serious — the full chain is routinely a $60,000–$120,000 event, and the Delta's distances put it at the expensive end of African evacuations.

Activities that need a second look

Mokoro excursions are covered as calm-water canoeing by most wordings, and the Delta's walking islands make short guided walks a staple — which triggers the walking-safari exclusion several mainstream insurers carry. Horseback safaris in the Delta's private concessions add riding clauses on top. Check each booked activity by name against the policy wording.
