The maximum a policy pays for emergency medical transport. Safari itineraries with remote fly-in camps warrant at least $250,000; budget policies capping out at $50,000–$100,000 can leave you underinsured for a single airlift.
Evacuation limits range from $50,000 on budget policies to $1–2 million on specialist ones, and the destination decides how much you need. Kruger, two hours from Johannesburg hospitals, is a different problem from a wet-season camp in South Luangwa with no road access at all.
Rules of thumb by remoteness
Well-connected reserves (Kruger, Masai Mara): $100,000–$250,000.
Fly-in wilderness (Okavango, South Luangwa, Bwindi): $250,000–$500,000.
Multi-country or medically complex travelers: $500,000+.
