Permit Protection
Cover that reimburses a non-refundable wildlife permit — such as a $1,500 Rwanda gorilla permit — when illness, injury, or a covered trip disruption stops you from using it. A distinct, narrower benefit than general trip cancellation.
A Rwanda gorilla permit costs $1,500 per person; Uganda charges $800 in high season. Neither is refundable if you wake up trek-day with a fever — parks rightly refuse sick visitors to protect the gorillas, and the permit is simply lost.
General trip cancellation applies before departure. A permit you can't use mid-trip falls into a gap unless the policy names permit costs (or generously defines trip interruption). Safari-specialist insurers increasingly list permit protection as its own benefit — look for it by name, and check what percentage is reimbursed.
