Cancel For Any Reason (CFAR)

An optional upgrade that reimburses part of your prepaid trip cost — typically 50–75% — when you cancel for a reason standard trip cancellation doesn't cover. Usually must be bought within 14–21 days of your first trip payment.

Standard trip cancellation pays out only for listed reasons: illness, injury, a death in the family. CFAR covers the unlisted ones — you changed your mind, work got complicated, the news made you nervous. In exchange, it reimburses a percentage (usually 50–75%) rather than the full amount, and costs roughly 40–50% more in premium.

The catches

  • You must usually buy it within 14–21 days of your first trip deposit — you can't add it later.

  • You typically must insure 100% of your prepaid trip cost.

  • Most CFAR benefits require cancelling at least 48 hours before departure.

For safaris the math is worth running: deposits are large, non-refundable, and often paid a year out. See which of our partners offer CFAR on the comparison page.
